Introduction:The SAEL is a freely available selection of cross species anatomical terms relevant to functional genomics. It provides an entry point to anatomical resources via mapping to concepts in those resources. A resource is defined as a controlled vocabulary or ontology consisting of identified anatomical terms which are freely available. It was generated by EMAP, FMA, GALEN, GXD, MGED, EHDA under the auspices of SOFG and initial workshop funding by the MRC-HGU Edinburgh. Purpose: The SAEL is an entry mechanism for computational access to anatomy resources, to facilitate automated information retrieval. It is a resource for curators, biologists, informaticians and developers of software supporting functional genomics. A full report from the workshop is available [DOC - 112kb] [PDF - 146kb].

Mapping:Most of the SAEL/source ontology mappings have been made using CoBRA, an ontology mapping tool from the XSPAN project. Mapping files are in .owl format and can be read by CoBRA.
eVOC-SAEL mappings provided from v2.7 of eVOC to 1.1 of SAEL provided by *Minna* Lehvaslaiho, 17 May 2006. Please contact Minna for information on eVOC or these mappings. [Mapped txt - 6 kb] [Not mapped - txt - 1kb] If you would like to map another resource please contact mged-ontologies@lists.sourceforge.net for advice. The following databases/applications will use the SAEL: Publications:The SAEL was presented at ISMB as part of the BioOntologies SIG.
Contact:The SAEL is currently maintained by the MGED ontology group with anatomical curation by Jackson Lab GXD database curator Terry Hayamizu. Please email Minna Lehvaslaiho with eVOC to SAEL feedback. Please email mged-ontologies@lists.sourceforge.net with other feedback. New terms may be proposed via the MGED Ontology Tracker. |
